Description
PURPOSE
The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager. This person supervises maintenance personnel in their daily jobs and oversees small construction and engineering projects. The supervisor is expected to coordinate with Production Supervisors, Maintenance Planners, and other plant personnel to maximize equipment availability. The Maintenance Supervisor is expected to be capable of supervising all areas of the plant as required to cover for other maintenance supervisors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Instruct all maintenance department personnel in safe work practices on the job
  • Instruct personnel in the correct ways to inspect, repair & install equipment
  • Conduct MSHA and plant safety training for all personnel
  • Inspection of plant equipment & recommendations for repair, replacement or upgrade
  • Work with Plant Engineer on all aspects of changes, upgrades, or additions
  • Support Plant Engineer with people and/or equipment to perform work needed
  • Must be able to take or help take measurements in the field on equipment above or below ground
  • Coordinate with electrical supervisor and electrical personnel
  • Coordinate with instrument supervisor and instrument personnel
  • Work with Assistant Plant Manager & Supervisors in the plant to solve problems with equipment or process
  • Assist in improvement of vibration analysis program for major equipment components
  • Cost-effective use of contractors, spares, and materials.
  • Supervise call outs when needed
  • Work with storeroom supervisor and maintenance planners to ensure necessary parts are ordered and onsite as required for outages and projects
  • Analyze equipment breakdown to determine the root cause of failure
  • Other projects or assignments as directed by the Maintenance Manager
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Related college degree preferred or equivalent years' experience in the mining industry
  • Six (6) years experience in cement or related industry preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment
  • Knowledgeable of MSHA standards and requirements preferred
  • Possess excellent verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Must be a team player
  • Task and project-oriented
  • Ability to work with all levels of management
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, policy manuals, and required government regulations
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Must have good communications skills using a two-way radio
  • Must keep safety above all else
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift up to 30 pounds
  • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
  • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and vision to operate equipment safely
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Pass required physical examination and drug screens
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, ice, rain, and high humidity, and is required to work in all plant environments. The incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights. . May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs)
