Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterans' Service Officer for Martin County Government.

Duties:

Direct and assists Veterans and dependents in applying for available federal benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs.

Direct and assists Veterans and dependents in appealing denied claims.

Directs and assists veterans in obtaining necessary inpatient/outpatient care from VA Medical Centers and Community Based Outreach Centers.

Directs and assists military retirees and their dependents or survivors in obtaining benefits from United States Department of Defense.

Coordinate Martin County Veterans Van, transporting and coordinating transportation for veterans to and from appointments at VA medical facilities.

Prepares and submits appropriate reports, forms and statistics to Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs and Martin County Commissioners.

Maintains electronic records and privacy of documents in accordance with federal and state laws.

Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED, be Honorably Discharged from the United States Military Service.

Must be 21 years of age.

Must pass a written exam and maintain certification as an Indiana County Veterans’ Service Officer per Indiana Statutes.

Thorough knowledge of and ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals, including, but not limited to, Veterans Benefit Handbook, Service Officer Guidebook, Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs manual/guides, Veteran Service Handbook and Code of Federal Regulations Number 38.

Working knowledge of standard office procedures and basic computer skills, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, task, and operations.
