SUMMARY:
Leads community recreation programs including instructional, enrichment, social, cultural arts, wellness, and special interest programming, supervises children in an afterschool/summer camp setting, and manages facility rentals and community events and parks and recreation activities. Assists with the scheduling of day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency and productivity. Work is performed under limited supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgement. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with department wide programs, activities, and events.Plans, coordinates and leads child care activities and events that meet the needs of the community, which may include but are not limited to after-school programs, summer camp programs, field trips, special events, evening events and rentals, weekend events and rentals as well as any other programming scheduled.Organizes and leads activities; directly monitors, leads and interacts with children during programs; ensures proper behavior and resolves conflicts as required. Responsible for the safety of participants in care. Leads Recreation Aides; may be assigned to supervise staff as requested by Supervisor.Monitors recreational activities at recreation facilities.Enforces rules and regulations and proper facility usage, enforces by informing the general public and participants and staff.Assists with the planning and organization of workloads and staff assignments.Provides excellent customer service, interacts with members of the public, meets and greets facility users and program participants, answers phones, and responds to questions and assists in providing information. Supports front desk operations.Handles related paperwork such as attendance records and files, requisitioning supplies and reporting.Maintains safeguards against accidents and instructs participants in safe use of equipment and during activities. Monitors assigned staff, volunteers, program instructors, patrons, spectators and facility users to ensure a high level of customer service and safety for all persons within the assigned park/facility and designated program. Opens and closes recreation facilities; prepares facilities and equipment for public use; reports any safety and maintenance concerns.Assists with overseeing park use including programs, rentals, equipment set-up/ break-down and daily custodial responsibilities.Assists with the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of park programs, activities and events to ensure all goals and objectives are achieved.Assists in ensuring compliance with state childcare regulations and grant requirements.Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, records, forms, documents and related information.Responsible for the collection of fees and following policies and procedures related to revenue collection.Assists in obtaining quotes for the purchase of supplies, materials, equipment, and goods and services. Assists with the development of monthly calendar of activities to ensure participants and patrons are kept appraised of program offerings; researches new and value-added programs.Assists in creating documents, flyers, and informational material for programs and events.Renders CPR/First Aid, according to level of training, in the case of an injury and reports all injuries to supervisor.Completes accident reports as required by policy for all accidents/incidentsMonitors facility conditions, maintains supplies and materials; performs light maintenance and custodial duties.Conducts scheduled inspections and safety checks to ensure facilities and equipment are in good working condition and parks are well maintained and safe for patrons; reports conditions and issues to supervisor.Staffs special events as scheduled.Attends work on continuous and regular basis.Performs work related to this job description as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, of child psychology and sociology and of personal health and hygiene.Knowledge of and ability to lead a variety of recreational activities suitable for children and adults.Knowledge of and ability to manage a group of children in assigned care.Some knowledge of recreational program activities such as sports, arts and crafts, educational activities, music, or drama.Ability to maintain discipline and to solve disciplinary problems.Knowledge of rules, regulations, and safety precautions related to recreational activities.Knowledge of basic office equipment, including cash registers and personal computers and software applications.Ability to work with all types of adults and children, including individuals with disabilities.Ability to lead staff in recreation work.Ability to maintain composure and solve issues quickly and calmly and react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.Ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying ages and abilities, both orally and in writing.Ability to understand and carry out instructions, oral and written.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, staff, other County employees, and the general public.Ability to effectively work with and to secure the confidence and cooperation of participants, program providers and user groups, the general public, staff, and other parks and recreation employees.Ability to contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.Ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by supervisors.Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.Ability to pass Criminal Background Screening and Children and Family Services background check upon hire.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) year of experience in leading activities and programs for children and adults, supervising children, monitoring parks and recreation facilities, and related experience in the parks and recreation field required. The County may institute an educational milestone plan.Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a Florida Driver’s License. First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications required within the first 6 months of hire, and maintain same license and certifications as a condition of continued employment.Must be able to complete forty (40) hours of required training and testing through the Department of Children and Families within the first year of hire. Must be able to complete ten (10) hours of required training for every subsequent year. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
