Martin County Board of County Commissioners is Hiring a Maintenance Worker Near Stuart, FL

Semi-skilled manual work in the performance of manual laboring tasks on roads, sidewalks, and drainage projects. Operates equipment and trucks.
 
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Cleans county canals, catch basins, culverts, gutters and other drainage structures.
 
 Build drainage culverts and other structures, install flumes and swales, lay pipe and brick, repair guardrails.
 
Operates a vehicle, dump truck, street roller, concrete and asphalt tools, and various hand and power tools.
 
Maintains and repairs county streets, sidewalks, bridges and canals.
 
Installs and repairs curbs and sidewalks; patches potholes;; removes trash and debris from streets and sidewalks;; cleans storm drains and canals.
 
Loads and unloads materials and supplies. 
 
Assists in the forming, pouring and finishing of concrete. 
 
Performs other maintenance activities such as tree trimming, cutting grass, weed eating ditch banks and ditch bottoms. 
 
Works with asphalt, repairing roads and road shoulders.
 
Installs sod, plants grass seed, repairs sprinklers.
 
Cleans and washes equipment and vehicles. 
 
Uses hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers and machetes in the maintenance of road and drainage facilities.
 
Performs traffic control duties on certain jobs. 
 
Operates powered machinery such as but not limited to, pumps, saws, drills, hammers, mixers, mowers, light and medium trucks.
 
Performs work related to this job description as required.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of hand and power tools and equipment used in the maintenance of public facilities.
 
Skill in the operation of tools and equipment necessary to perform duties
 
Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Ability to operate basic manual and electric hand tools, e.g., hammer, screwdriver, saw, power drill, masonry tools.
 
Ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery, e.g., dump truck, pickup truck, one and three ton roller, skid loader.
 
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
 
Ability to perform strenuous labor tasks and lift up to one hundred (100) pounds under varying weather conditions.
 

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Some prior work experience in performing heavy manual labor or maintenance work.

Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License E at time of hire. 

Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License B may be required depending on job assignment and department discretion.
