JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Property Data is a member of the Global Data Products team and an integral part of Marriott’s Customer organization. This position will be a technical and subject matter expert in Hotel Operations and Guest Voice data. This is an individual contributor role that entails hands-on data engineering and data operations skills to build and manage data products supporting analytics, reporting and machine learning needs. The Senior Manager will also partner with other teams on data integration & provide technical support to large-scale Marriott reporting and operational projects; implement system and business process changes to improve data quality; and support departmental initiatives in the areas of data governance, data management, and analytics. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for contributing to the development of our cloud data platform by setting requirements and consulting on future platform initiatives.

We are looking for a driven individual with strong consulting skills, a SQL programming background to manage robust data pipelines and experience with cloud computing & modern data warehousing environments. This hybrid technical management role will include collaborating with business disciplines, IT and external 3rd parties to bring in new data engineering technologies, build and manage data processing frameworks, and help deploy analytics reports & models to production. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or similar quantitative discipline required (MS or MBA preferred)
  • 5 years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, data warehousing, or data science OR 3 years with a Master's degree
  • Strong background in SQL for data analysis and new dataset development
  • Strong background in data quality and data operations in data warehouse environments
  • Technical Skills
  • Developing data for high performance data warehouses (Snowflake - preferred, Big Query/Redshift, Vertica or other compressed column store & traditional data warehouses considered)
  • Cloud Data Platform (AWS - preferred, Azure/GCP/Hadoop also considered)
  • Data Analysis/Programming languages (SQL- required; Python, Spark - preferred)

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Hospitality industry and experience with hospitality systems and data strongly preferred
  • Experience managing and addressing data quality issues and creating solutions that improve data quality & operational reliability
  • Cloud Data & Project Management experience
  • Experience understanding Guest Satisfaction data a plus
  • Customer obsessed product mindset with ability to architect technical solutions for complex business problems

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES 

Demonstrating and Applying Discipline Knowledge 

  • Manage data product development using SQL and/or Spark including:
  • Support data operations of Hotel Operations and Guest Voice datasets
  • Maintain/Fix Defects ​ (e.g., data quality root cause analysis and resolution)
  • Evolve/Enhance data products for our business partners
  • Act as a bridge between iT and analytics teams facilitating data shares in a timely and accurate manner
  • Identify new ways of engineering existing data or acquiring new data sources to support development of customer data products
  • Collaborate with peers and Director, Data Strategy & Management to develop systems and technologies that promotes automation & monitoring
  • Act as a trusted subject matter expert & partner with analytics teams to make recommendations on data usage
  • Perform user acceptance testing and build quality assurance plans for new data products

Managing Responsibilities with Stakeholders

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders across the organization. Fosters a positive climate to build effective teams that are committed to organizational goals and initiatives.
  • Updates stakeholders on key initiative wins and opportunities, responds to concerns, and solicits feedback. Engages leadership to develop and execute action plans to address gaps.
  • Assists direct reports with building and maintaining stakeholder relationships as business partnerships.
