JOB SUMMARY

Global Brand Public Relations is an integral function of Marriott’s Global Communications & Public Affairs (GCPA) department which leads Corporate Communications, Media Relations, Internal Communications, Government Affairs, Social Impact, and Multicultural Affairs for the Company. The Senior Manager, Luxury Brand Public Relations (PR) is responsible for activation and management of public relations initiatives and media relations for multiple brands, including JW Marriott, W Hotels, and The Luxury Collection. The Senior Manager, Luxury Brand PR reports to the Senior Director, Luxury Brand PR and works at Marriott Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland or MI Lab in New York City.

The position is responsible for a range of public relations initiatives and activations for assigned luxury brands, including media relations, publicity generation, media tours, special event management, and public relations activities and support in conjunction with hotel openings and trade shows. In addition, the position is also responsible for the development and implementation of brand-related and customer segment-related public relations in support of the luxury brand teams. The Senior Manager, Luxury Brand PR will liaison closely with the brand teams, digital and social teams, and the teams within GCPA, and outside agencies to support the PR goals of the business.

Job Expectations

The Senior Manager, Luxury Brand PR is responsible for the public relations initiatives and media relations for JW Marriott, W Hotels and The Luxury Collection luxury brands, specifically:

PR Management & Execution: 

  • Under the direction of the Senior Director, Luxury Brand PR, the Senior Manager activates and implements annual public relations plan for assigned luxury brands. Supports the development and implementation of the PR strategies for assigned brands according to the business goals and objectives and then plans, develops, activates, and implements annual public relations plan for assigned brands in support of the overall PR strategy.
  • Creates, edits and develops brand PR materials including messaging, new releases, executive briefs, talking points, presentations and pitches, among other documents. 
  • Develops integrated public relations tools (e.g., tool kits, templates, newsletters) for use that support and elevate the level of public relations activity among assigned luxury brands.
  • Executes crisis/reputation management efforts on behalf of brands when necessary and fully coordinate with corporate communication crisis management teams.
  • Collaborates with brand teams, digital and social teams, the teams within GCPA, and outside agencies to support the PR goals of the business, developing ongoing publicity for brands, and global PR programs in support of the leisure and business travel segments. 
  • Works with public relations agencies and external resources on public relations activities including activations, promotions, etc. for all assigned brands. Monitors and tracks related invoices and expenses.
  • Supports coordinating Luxury Brand PR globally working with Continental PR leads to ensure global message alignment and appropriate regional implementation.

Media Relations: 

  • Develops and executes professional media relationships in travel and leisure and other key outlets/journalists in order to continually “pitch” Marriott brand stories. 
  • Responsible for development and execution of a plan to generate brand publicity.
  • Develops, plans, and executes media tour working with brand leaders.
  • Develops and implements media/blogger relations programs/proactive pitches targeted to a variety of media, including trade, consumer travel and lifestyle, as well as national outlets, and publicity programs.
  • Creates, edits, and develops various press materials, including press releases, briefing documents, talking points and speeches, in addition to brand PR toolkits that can be used across a wide variety of media outlets including digital and social.

Events:

  • Executes various PR initiatives and programs for assigned brands and collaborates with team members in support of their brands within the portfolio.
  • Manages brand/regional events, such as openings, press conferences, off-property events, conferences, and media tours. 
  • Manages market pull-through on company initiatives, news, and brand messaging.
  • Acts as brand representative and spokesperson internally within the organization and at external events.
  • Increases awareness of brands internally, by managing internal events and working with internal stakeholders and their various communication channels. 
  1. Requirements for Position

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

  • 6 years of relevant professional experience in public relations, media, marketing or related function, demonstrating progressive career growth and pattern of exceptional performance.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Knowledge of the media with established network of media contacts across a spectrum of consumer outlets. Proficient in social media and relationships with cultural influencers who are relevant to the brands’ target audiences.
  • Demonstrated news first mind-set; able to create stories and content surrounding brands that is newsworthy.
  • Experience leading PR initiatives as well as sourcing PR agencies. 
  • Experience collaborating with internal partners and stakeholders to support business/initiative strategies.
  • Success in determining priorities, schedules, plans and necessary resources to ensure completion of any projects on schedule.
  • A team player who is both curious and flexible and thrives in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Desire and flexibility to travel and attend brand events and hotel openings.
  • Ability to routinely work from the NYC Office or HQ office in Bethesda.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in public relations, communications, international studies, social sciences, journalism, marketing, business administration, or related major. Master’s degree a plus. 

The salary range for this position is $113,393.00 to $204,107.00 annually. This position offers health care benefits, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, accrued paid time off (including sick leave where applicable), life insurance, disability coverage, other life and work wellness benefits and may include incentive compensation. Benefits and incentive compensation may be subject to generally applicable eligibility, waiting period, contribution, and other requirements and conditions.
