Marram Health Center of Gary is Hiring a Dental assistant Near Gary, IN

Marram Health Center is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with locations in Gary and Hebron, Indiana. This position will be working between our Gary and Hebron locations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Dental Assistant will work under the supervision of dentist(s) and are responsible for a wide range of tasks in the dental office, ranging from patient care to administrative duties to laboratory functions.

The dental assistant position is the most flexible and varied in the dental office and requires a diverse set of skills : clinical, clerical, interpersonal, and technological.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Places preventative and restorative dental materials as specified by dentist.
  • Obtains preliminary dental history and prepares patient for dentist’s or dental hygienist’s treatment procedure(s).
  • Takes patients B / P and pulse, documents and reports abnormal readings to the dentist.
  • Ensures that lab reports, radiographs and other information are in patient records.
  • Disinfects and prepares operatories, instruments and tray set ups for patient examination / treatment.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies.
  • Assists dentist / dental hygienist with diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed.
  • Remains in exam room with dentist / dental hygienist during patient care as requested or assigned.
  • Takes radiographs.
  • Follows infection control guidelines and ensures adherence to OSHA protocols.
  • Collects and prepares biohazard material for removal.
  • Checks appointment schedule with providers’ patients schedules.
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves patient flow issues.
  • Sterilizes instruments and changes ultrasonic daily. Completes spore tests on autoclave.
  • Maintains daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of operatory equipment.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and in-services as required.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health / dental information.
  • Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned by Dentist or VP of Marram Health Center.

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills .
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in correct English usage, spelling and grammar.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required :
  • X-ray certification and Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) certification
  • Related dental assistant experience and / or training
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Possesses basic familiarity with computers and internet programs
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Dentist, staff, and patients
  • Preferred (not required) :
  • Dentrix and Dexis software experience
  • Coronal polishing and / or fluoride application certificates
  • Experience in a community health dental setting

EDUCATION

  • Certificate from an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary training program
  • High school diploma or equivalent
