POSITION DESCRIPTION
Office/ Health Aide
(MESPA II Class B Position)
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
RATIONALE: Assists in providing for health needs of students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate (or equivalent) and some college preparation.
2. Certified Nurse’s preferred.
3. Willingness to be trained and maintain certifications in all aspects of providing proper care for medically fragile students, including but not limited to, medical procedures such as injections, tube feeding, carbohydrate counting, blood sugar level monitoring, etc.
4. Must be willing to be trained and able to recognize the signs of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia and respond with appropriate treatment.
5. Must be able to accurately follow and administer a written medical care plan.
6. Must work well under pressure to insure the proper care of medically fragile students.
7. Must work in a detailed and organized manner documenting medical and instructional information.
8. Positive and effective oral and written communication skills in working with others including the school nurse, administration, parents, school staff, and students.
9. Background/experience in working with, coaching, tutoring, or mentoring students.
10. Basic computer skills required and willingness to learn additional software/hardware if needed (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data base, management information system).
11. High energy level, creative problem-solving ability, and sensitivity to the needs of students.
12. High level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
13. Must have the ability to show initiative to follow through on activities without continuous supervision or teacher direction.
14. Must have the ability to model and facilitate children's learning activities to help them achieve goals.
15. Must have the ability to model teacher's positive reinforcement techniques.
16. Must have a genuine interest in and aptitude for working with children with learning, emotional, medical and/or physical disabilities.
17. Must have the ability to lift/transfer disabled students as necessary, and assist with their personal needs (feeding, bathroom, medical, physical, support equipment, etc.).
18. Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain certification in CPI/HWC training (crisis prevention intervention / handle with care) and must be able to perform CPI/HWC training or equivalent.
19. Must meet health requirements as required by performance responsibilities.
20. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist office staff with the health needs of students.
2. Assist with record keeping.
3. Operate equipment used for instructional purposes.
4. Assist in preparing teaching materials and gathering resources for students.
5. Check and monitor progress of students on a daily basis and provides written reports as requested.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
