We provide over 150 deck and engineering USCG and USN approved courses covering all aspects of vessel operations. Our expert staff of instructors provides a combination of unequaled teaching techniques with cutting-edge simulation technology and “hands-on” training systems.

Job Summary: The Controller is the leader of the finance team responsible for managing all aspects of the company's accounting operations. This role requires strong leadership skills to oversee the accounting staff, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

· Coordinate the preparation of financial reports for management and regulatory agencies.

· Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data by reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

  • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate audits with external auditors and provide support as needed.
  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Lead the development of the annual operating budget working closely with department heads to develop accurate and achievable budgets.

· Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis to identify areas of concern or opportunity.

· Collaborate with department heads to track expenses and ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines.

  1. Cash Flow Management:
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure the company's financial obligations are met.

· Monitor banking activities and maintain relationships with financial institutions.

  • Develop and implement cash management strategies to optimize working capital and minimize borrowing costs.
  • Ensure controls are in place to minimize the risk of fraud and theft of cash, checks and electronic transfers.
  1. AP/AR:
  • Manage the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Processes and staff to ensure timely and accurate reporting of income and expenses. 
  • Work with delinquent customer accounts to ensure payment or collections referral.
  • Establish & maintain procedures for adding/deleting customers and vendors.
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring workload is balanced and deadlines are met.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback to direct reports.
  1. Insurance: Monitor insurance policies and work with the CEO to ensure timely renewals of all policies. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience with a minimum of 7 years in a controller or senior accountant role
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office products

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced office environment.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to meet deadlines.
  • Travel may be required for business-related activities.

Certificates and Licenses:

· Valid Driver's License

· CPA or CMA certification Preferred but not required.
