Marion County Housing Authority is Hiring an Intake Specialist Near Centralia, IL

Do you like helping people? Do you have great listening skills and offer exceptional customer service? We have an opening on our dynamic team for an individual to help people apply for housing assistance.

Under the direction of the Program Director, this position assures an efficient and effective application process as well as provides support to PH operations. This position is responsible for compiling information necessary to meet Housing Authority’s goals and objectives in accordance with HUD regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional image and attitude as a liaison between MCHA and applicants.
  • Process applications and approve selections from waiting lists in accordance with established Authority and HUD policies and guidelines. Maintain waiting lists.
  • Monitor applicant placement on the waiting list(s) taking into consideration date and time of application and related factors outlined in the respective Program’s Policies, such as the Administrative Plan and the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy (ACOP). Must ensure applicants are properly placed on the waiting list pursuant to the Authority’s Policies and HUD regulations.
  • Must perform proper applicant screening.
  • Maintain records of all correspondence and obtained information in the tenant file. Must maintain an efficient filing and records system for residents.
  • Assist AMP managers by sending letters for appointments, notifications of service schedules, etc.
  • Strictly adhere to safety policies and procedures to prevent injury and maintain a safe work and living environment.
  • Obtain ongoing training certifications as required to perform job functions.
  • Assist with front desk duties and enter Work orders as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communications. A high degree of initiative in managing multiple priorities in a fast paced, detail-oriented environment. Ability to comprehend and interpret complex rules, regulations and laws. Must have good organizational skills, the ability to exercise good judgment and able to interact with diverse and special interest populations with tact and courtesy. Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions and to deal with high stress situations calmly and effectively. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer use. Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, mail merge, and Apple IOS a plus. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers and the general public.

Education and Experience: Associates Degree in Business, Sociology or related field or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials. Valid driver’s license and insurability required. Drug free workplace, EOE.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
