Overview:

Guided by local needs and the Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities, the Student Services Supervisor will supervise, develop and evaluate programs and services geared to meeting the specific individual education needs of students with disabilities and learning differences.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Collaboratively works with school administrators and special education staff to coordinate programs and services for students with disabilities.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts comprehensive professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, specialists, parents and other staff members.
  • Provides support and consultation to teachers, support staff, administration and parents in the areas of special education to improve instructional capacity and increased student achievement.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring and evaluation process for student services staff members.
  • Works with the Director of Student Services to plan and implement improvements to special education and related services programming.
  • Coordinates school age services, transition services, postsecondary options and alternative education programs.
  • Leads and coordinates related services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adapted physical education, nursing, psychological services and behavioral services.
  • Coordinates and monitors services and supports to ensure compliance with State and Federal Law.
  • Assists in the development and review of policies and administrative guidelines concerning special education and student services programs.
  • Coordinates activities between the school district and outside agencies.
  • Assists the Records Compliance Officer in their ability to carry out the policies and guidelines of the district.
  • Support the district alternative education placements. Responsibilities include contracting with outside agencies for placement seats, recommending purchases of seats, working with building administrators on criteria for placement and evaluating the yearly need in this area.
  • Develops and coordinates the implementation of high school graduate follow-up surveys and the programs.
  • Works directly with EMIS to correct errors tied to funding and compliance within IDEA.
  • Ensures the safety of students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required.
  • Comply with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations
  • Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain knowledge of academic area, teaching methodology and strategies to engage students.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgement.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
  • Attends meetings, professional development and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  • Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy.
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect district equipment, materials and facilities.
Conduct:

Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
