Golf Course Starter/Ranger
Job Summary
The Golf Course Starter/Course Ranger is responsible for welcoming members and guests, informing them of course conditions, upcoming events that may be of interest to them, and any other activity that may affect their play. This position directs players to the first tee at appropriate times and controls a smooth pace of play on the golf course. This position also monitors player activity on the course and assists cart staff, maintenance staff, and pro shop staff as needed. Employees in this position are required to interact with management and other members of the staff, to discuss any problems, opportunities, and areas of concern with the goal of improving the overall operation of the Marietta Country Club golf course.
Job Duties and Tasks
  • Greets and welcomes golfers to the tee and records group information.
  • Goes over any unusual conditions that exist on the course.
  • Communicates with staff to ensure that all players tee off at their scheduled times.
  • Monitors all play on the golf course, with special attention to pace of play.
  • Informs golf personnel of the pace of play off the first tee.
  • Maintains clean and orderly appearance of starters area and first tee.
  • Supplies guests with scorecards, pencils and other items if needed.
  • Advises guests of course conditions and expected pace of play.
  • Observes pace of play on the golf course and assists slower groups/players and requests them to speed up play, where appropriate.
  • Requests slower playing groups allow others to play through, if appropriate.
  • Ensures that all players are following golf course rules and etiquette and reports infractions to appropriate golf shop personnel.
  • Enforces the rules of play on golf course and ensures pace of play standards are maintained.
  • Keeps non-playing traffic off of the course (children, dogs, etc.).
  • May direct golfers as to special circumstances that golf maintenance recommends for play.
  • Assists with raking bunkers, spotting of golf balls, and other related services.
  • Assists with setting up of practice facility prior to start of play.
  • Picks up debris seen on the course as needed.
  • Periodically assists staff with maintenance of golf carts.
  • Keeps accurate records of play.
  • Maintains the putting and chipping green areas.
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Two years working on a golf course preferred.
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of the game of golf and be familiar with the rules of golf.
  • Gives direction to golfers, Communicating effectively with members and guests.
  • Assists players by cleaning clubs while at the practice facility.
  • Assists maintaining the practice facility by set up, stacking balls and picking.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, frequent walking, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching.
  • Must possess an outgoing, friendly, and diplomatic personality.
  • Must be able to operate a standard golf cart.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, from extreme heat to cold based on the season.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must have conflict resolution experience and be able to resolve disputes, reporting issues to Director of Golf.
  • Be able to tolerate a variety of weather conditions including but not limited to extreme temperatures, all forms of precipitation, sun and wind.
  • Must dress according to Club standards and protocols.
