Maricopa Unified School District 20 is Hiring a Guidance Counselor- Maricopa High School Near Maricopa, AZ

Position Description: Guidance Counselor

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt – 201 day (middle school) or 217 (high school) contract

SALARY: Approved Certified Compensation Schedule 

REPORTS TO: School Principal

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

To help all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Establish the school counseling program and develop activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program.
  • Involve other school staff in making decisions about the school counseling program.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students.
  • Consult with students, parents, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
  • Assists with counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school.
  • Assists teachers with the guidance curriculum.
  • Accurately interprets test results and other student data.
  • Assist teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies.
  • Adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession, and abides by the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools.
  • Participate in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge and skills when needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of best practices for guidance and vocational counseling
  • Knowledge of curriculum offerings as well as course and graduation requirements
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
  • Knowledge of district rules of conduct
  • Skill in assisting students with other physical, emotional, social and academic limitations/needs.
  • Skill in monitoring and correcting student behavior.
  • Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly. Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 50 pounds).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Arizona Counseling Licensure as determined by the Arizona Department of Education
  • Preferred Three years of School Counseling Experience
  • Preferred a valid First Aid/CPR card(s)
  • Possess a valid Arizona Driver's License (if required)
  • DPS IVP Fingerprint Card
