Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

About the Position
We are actively seeking engineers of all levels to join the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, where you can make a significant impact in protecting communities from flooding. As an engineer in our district, you'll have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of tasks, which may include, FLO 2D modeling, hydrology and hydraulics modeling and review, river mechanics, dam safety, and designing and implementing cutting-edge flood control infrastructure.

We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to, Civil Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering; OR
  • Four years of professional pre-registration civil engineering or hydrology experience. Certification as an Engineer-in-Training may substitute for the aforementioned experience; OR
  • Four years of experience leading and performing senior-level technical engineering work
  • Positions may have additional experience requirements and/or discipline-specific certifications or professional registration requirements
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

The Engineer Associate I is a technical, entry-level position that performs fundamental to advanced engineering analyses and research. Applies established restrictions, code compliance, and permit requirements to design projects.
The Engineer Associate II is an experienced mid-level professional in the engineering series that independently performs a wide range of engineering assignments of greater complexity for the full scope of the project and may be assigned lead responsibilities.
Job Contributions
  • Perform reviews and approve designs, models, plans, and/or permits to ensure they meet District or regulatory standards
  • Manage consultant contracts in the design and construction documents preparation for projects. Coordinate activities between various internal and external customers, County departments, and regulatory agencies to ensure deliverables meet schedule and quality requirements
  • Perform research and data gathering of technical datasets, historical information, and current projects to provide technical support and in response to requests from internal and external groups
  • Prepare and complete comprehensive engineering, progress, and metric reports
  • Perform construction inspections and approve field/plan changes that impact District structures
Working Conditions
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Exerting 20 - 25 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly
  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

Protective Equipment Required
  • PPE as needed when on construction sites
