This position supervises Library Access Services and oversees the daily operations of circulation, interlibrary loans, reserves, acquisitions, periodicals, and library technical services. The Library Specialist Supervisor manages full-time staff and student workers by conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training and scheduling, and managing personnel procedures in a collaborative team environment. The position leads and monitors quality control and assurance activities for the area and ensures the provision of excellent customer service.Additionally, the Supervisor liaises with District technical services staff and participates in leadership with the library faculty in collaborative ways in order to advance library initiatives and student service. 40% Works collaboratively with and under the supervision of the Library Department Chair to 1) manage and oversee Library Access Services (circulation, interlibrary loans, reserves, acquisitions, periodicals, library technology services), 2) monitor expenditures, equipment and technology of Access Services, and 3) monitor the library facility to ensure a clean and safe environment conducive for studying and learning.
40% Hires, trains, and supervises library staff and student workers. Plans, organizes, reviews, and evaluates the work of library staff including daily scheduling, human capital management (HCM) time, and adherence to workplace safety practices. Provides input and assists in developing, recommending, and implementing library operating policies, procedures and work standards at the local and district level. Serves as a technical staff lead over the Library Integrated System. Compiles and reviews data and prepares routine and ad hoc reports. Additionally, the Supervisor liaises with District technical services staff and participates in leadership with the library faculty in collaborative ways in order to advance library initiatives and student service. Engages with District wide Library Technical Services initiatives and service. Oversees and monitors quality control and assurance activities for Access Services.
10% Provides customer service on a regular schedule at the circulation service desks and responds to escalated patron requests and complaints.
10% Works toward the development of professional skills and other duties as assigned
Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution in library science or related field, two years of related library support experience such as oversight of daily operations of circulation, interlibrary loans and reserves, acquisitions, periodicals and library technology service and two years of lead work or senior level work experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
A. Bachelor’s degree
B. Supervisory and/or lead work experience
C. Experience providing service for circulation, interlibrary loans, reserves, acquisitions, periodicals, and/or library technical services
D. Experience and knowledge in using an Integrated Library System for the purpose of material acquisitions, processing and billing and/or circulation services.
E. Customer service experience and/or experience providing service to students in a Library setting.
F. Experience compiling and using data to create reports and assess work
G. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively on defined projects and/or goals (provide examples)
