Job Summary

Maricopa Community Colleges District Office is seeking a detail and compliance-oriented Safety and Risk Analyst!
Be a crucial part of creating and executing comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety programs designed specifically for colleges, all while following the Districtwide safety plan. Drive compliance with laws, regulations, codes, and policies through a proactive approach that includes conducting inspections, and audits, providing training, and analyzing loss data. Act as a Health, Safety, and Environmental SME/ liaison between the colleges and the Risk Management department.

Essential Functions

30% - Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE)
  • Subject matter expert for colleges regarding HSE topics; Provides technical safety information/ compliance requirements to college executives and/or college safety coordinators. Serves a subject matter expert in ANSI and NFPA standards, and risk control and risk identification i.e., inspections, job hazard analysis, and ergonomics.
  • Builds and maintains effective consultative-oriented internal relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Assists colleges with the investigation process, including interviewing of staff and analyzing evidence about employee injuries, property damage & liability to determine root cause and develop and implement corrective measures.
  • Conducts inspections of facilities, audits of programs and procedures and follow-up investigations of incidents to determine effective mitigation strategies.
  • Assist Safety & Risk Control Manager with the development and maintenance of safety programs.
  • Participate in college level and District-wide safety committees.
40% - Training
  • Develops District-wide safety training materials and identifies, coordinates, and occasionally facilitates or conducts safety training, using the information collected through risk analysis.
  • Collaborates with CEOD/Learning Center in the conversion of training materials into computer-based training (CBT)
  • Conducts OSHA 10 & OSHA 30-hour training for various staff groups. Creates safety articles, information, and publications.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates health and safety train-the-trainer and other training programs.
20% - Risk Analysis/Management
  • Identifies risk through safety inspections, audits, accident investigation, and analysis of loss data to determine safety training needs and corrective measures. Identifies liability issues regarding college and contractor operations.
  • Analyzes and compiles loss data to determine where to focus limited resources for the greatest loss prevention impact. Presents data, using charts, graphs reports to stakeholders, including the Annual Risk Management Report.
10% - Other Risk Management duties as assigned
  • These duties include but are not limited to loss prevention/loss control and assisting with insurance renewals.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Services, Business or Public Administration and three (3) years of professional safety, occupational or environmental health management experience that includes two (2) years of leading programs.
OR
Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Services, Business or Public Administration and five (5) years of professional safety, occupational or environmental health management experience that includes three (3) years of leading programs.
OR
High School Diploma/GED and seven (7) years of professional safety, occupational or environmental health management experience that includes four (4) years of leading programs.
Desired Qualifications

A. Three (3) years of experience speaking to (including creating and delivering presentations) a large cross-section of employees including front-line staff, supervisors, and upper management.
B. Two (2) years of experience in conducting safety and risk control assessments (i.e., inspections, job hazard analysis, ergonomic assessments, etc.). Experience in analyzing data, creating charts & graphs for loss data trending, and writing reports for use in developing mitigation strategies.
C. Experience in Occupational Safety & Health and providing consultation/advisory support at all levels of the organization or currently holds any of the following designations: Associate Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST).
D. Minimum of a current OSHA 501 General Industry Trainer Authorization.
E. Experience working with a Public Entity or Institution of Higher Learning.
F. Advanced speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills.
G. Proficient in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite to develop or update training materials, compile reports, presentations, program databases, etc.
Special Working Conditions

* May be required to work at multiple sites or locations in both indoor or outside working environments.
* May be required to sit for extended periods of time.
* May be required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. infrequently and 30 lbs. frequently.
* Possess a valid AZ Class D driver's license; must meet MCCCD minimum standards regarding driving.
* May be required to wear various forms of Personal Protective Equipment.
