Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Activities, provides an organized program of activity and recreational programming designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interest and the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

Responsibilities of the Activities Assistant / Program Assistant include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans, organizes and runs a well-organized program of both group and individual activities for residents including promotion, preparation and set up, reminder calls/cues, escorts, and clean up.
  • Initiate, develop, coordinate and promote enrichment activities, both within and outside the community, that will stimulate and encourage resident interest and participation.
  • Provides a safe, clean and neat environment for residents participating in activities and assumes responsibility for overseeing resident safety and well-being.
  • Participates in the development of the monthly Activities Calendar.
  • Counsel and encourages residents to develop and pursue appropriate independent leisure activities.

Qualifications of a Activity Assistant / Program Assistant

One or more years of experience in planning, organizing and directing enrichment activities with the elderly population in a community setting, or holds a certified activities professional certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be comfortable working with an interdisciplinary team approach. Must be comfortable working with geriatric population.
