Shifts: Work 15 days a month on 12 hour shifts (2-2-3 rotating schedule). Those working night shift receive a night shift premium.

Job Summary

Safely maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support set up of paper converting production machines in a 24/7 operation, and provide status updates to Maintenance Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. A record of stable & continuous employment, including a minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience, preference given to packaging / converting experience.
  2. Specific trade experience in general mechanical maintenance (especially industrial rotating equipment), welding, pipefitting and millwright skills.
  3. Operate material handling equipment (rotating forklift, box clamp, roll clamp, etc.) safely and effectively, or the ability to obtain passing score on classroom training and satisfactory pass skills test.

Essential Duties and Functions

  1. Adhere to all company policies including the ability to maintain an on-call status on either an intermittent or regularly scheduled basis.
  2. Must be able to pass criminal background check, pre-hire physical including lifting and walking tests, and a pre-hire drug test.
  3. Ability, willingness, and compliance to work safely & wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  4. Meet attendance expectations - must not have a pattern of tardiness, late arrivals and/or absences regardless of status of disciplinary actions.
  5. Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak with employees / vendors at any level in a professional manner (clear, complete, & concise).
  6. Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision in collaboration and support of team objectives.
  7. Visual acuity and excellent observation skills.
  8. Ability to work rotating 12 hour shifts, OT, & weekends / holidays.
  9. Ability to work in a hot, humid, noisy, & high-volume manufacturing environment, including ability to climb, bend, & stoop.
  10. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and stand for continuous periods of time.
  11. Perform record keeping, as required.
  12. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks (duties and responsibilities) other than those specifically presented in this job description.
  13. Ensure compliance with OSHA and Company safety rules and regulations; communicate all non-compliance to immediate supervisor / manager.
  14. Read and follow all Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Work Practices, Product Standards, and Work Orders to perform assigned tasks.
  15. Maintain plant support systems in working order, i.e. heat, air, fans, air compressors and dryers, etc.
  16. Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of production and facility equipment.
  17. Ensure scheduled maintenance tasks / activities performed on equipment meet or exceed the manufacturer’s requirements for quality and reliability.
  18. Perform mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting.
  19. Perform troubleshooting, equipment / facility repairs and replace components, as required.
  20. Read and understand equipment manuals, technical references, machine drawings, schematic diagrams, and work orders to perform required maintenance.
  21. Participate in the Maintenance Continuing Training Program, as directed.
  22. Ensure maintenance spaces and areas within maintenance work boundaries are free from excess tools, materials, debris and other items not in use or that are unnecessary for operating and maintaining production equipment.
  23. Responsible for housekeeping in Parts Storeroom, Maintenance Department spaces, including air compressor rooms; ensure work areas are neat, organized and safe, including utilizing 5S Methods.
  24. Ensure manufacturer warranties remain effective by adhering to necessary safeguards and guidelines.
  25. Machining and other trade specializations such as hydraulics, pneumatics, and vibration analysis is desirable.
  26. Performs failure analysis on all breakdowns to determine root cause and make recommendations to prevent future breakdowns.

Education and Experience Requirements

  1. High School or equivalent, post-secondary education is desirable, such as vocational training or course work in engineering technology.
