Contract Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Psychiatric

Position Overview:

Performs professional diagnosis and treatment under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

Job Duties:

  • Provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment services to clients.
  • Plan and prescribe treatment (including medications) to alleviate symptoms and restore skills needed for independent living and symptom management.
  • Evaluate clients to assess response to treatment, side effects and unintended consequences of treatment and makes appropriate adjustments based on client needs.
  • Work hours 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Full-Time is preferred, but Part-Time is an option.
  • Maintain billable hours as 60% of total hours worked.
  • Provide telehealth client services as needed and provide court testimony as required.
  • Consult with psychiatrists and other physicians regarding client treatment and care needs.
  • Evaluate clients for physical health problems, and consults with and refers to primary care physicians.
  • Refer clients to physicians, psychologists, chemical dependency counselors, mental health counselors, social services, and other professionals and agencies as needed by the client.
  • Prescribe treatment and rehabilitation services to be provided by others in the organization.
  • Works with other members of a treatment team to develop a treatment plan.
  • Develop treatment plans, conducts evaluations as required by Many River's policies and state and federal regulations and standards.
  • Maintain clinical documentation consistent with Many River's written standards.
  • Provide backup coverage to other psychiatric providers and coverage for mental health emergencies.
  • Participate in and provide for other employees, continuing education and training programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive and advanced knowledge of psychiatric nursing, including psychiatric diagnosis, the use, and risks of medication in the treatment of psychiatric illnesses.
  • Advanced knowledge in related disciplines including psychology, social work, rehabilitation, and medicine.
  • Knowledge of Montana’s public mental health system and laws, regulations, and standards that govern practice.
  • Knowledge of indications and contraindications for the use of medications in treatment.
  • Must have the ability to conduct diagnostic psychiatric evaluation, prescribe and monitor patient care and patient progress in treatment.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree or above in Psychiatric Nursing Practice,
  • ANCC Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner,
  • Current RN Licensure and current APRN licensure in the state of Montana,
  • DEA registration required
  • NPI is required.
  • One year experience preferred.
