Motor Fuel Tax Analyst II Responsibilities:
Coaching and Mentoring
· Work with and Coach team member on return processes and GL reconciliations
· Research tax reporting requirements
· Review tax returns and account reconciliations for accuracy, providing constructive feedback to tax team as required
· Maintain and improve coding with various systems for efficiency and accuracy
· Maintain historical tax records to support audits
· Manage Tax Tickets to ensure the department runs smoothly
Motor Fuel Tax Return Preparation
· Utilize and optimize automation to facilitate data feed for accuracy and reasonableness as it pertains to the return
· Analyze general ledger activity against return data to ensure proper taxability of customers and products
· Prepare tax returns in a timely and accurate manner
· Assume responsibility for the more complex state and federal tax returns
· Stay abreast of tax law changes and understanding the impact on the company
· Utilize Excel effectively to complete returns and analysis
· Learn and understand Canadian tax laws and reporting standards
· Conduct internal audits of returns and general ledger reconciliations
· Complete refund returns as needed in a timely manner
General Ledger Account Reconciliation
· Reconcile general ledger accounts in a timely and accurate manner
· Utilize Excel to complete detailed analysis of general ledger accounts
· Create journal entries as needed
