Gardener Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Gardener to join our landscaping team. We provide comprehensive landscaping services to businesses and residences to the Des Moines and Ames areas, including lawn and garden maintenance. As a Gardener on our team, you will be responsible for and/or assist with plant installations, regular maintenance and will use common garden tools to create and maintain carefully manicured outdoor spaces. We are especially interested in candidates with prior experience in landscape maintenance, ground maintenance, and gardening techniques.

Gardener Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work outdoors in all weather conditions, maintaining energy and pace along with the team.
• Ability to pull weeds, and ability to identify weeds from garden plants.
• Ability to collect yard waste from garden beds (weeds, dead plant matter)
• Ability to plant garden beds with knowledge of plants’ needs for sunlight and water as compared to client maintenance needs.
• Ability to drive a personal vehicle to and from job sites.
• Detail-oriented and careful ---candidate will treat the client’s lawn as if it was their own.

Gardener Requirements and Qualifications:

• A valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Must have a reliable personnel vehicle to drive to and from job sites.
• Able to lift upwards of 50 pounds and bend, lift, and stand for extended periods
• Familiarity with common landscaping equipment
• Detail-oriented and careful-- candidate will treat the client’s lawn as if it was their own.
• Prior experience or work in horticulture or gardening (preferred). DIY gardeners are welcome to apply!
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Good understanding and knowledge of garden plants, shrubs, and trees
• Ability to work three consecutive days Monday through Friday, with the option of weekend flexibility in case of occasional weather delays. April – November (weather permitting)
• Ability to adjust schedules for weather delays
• Company vehicle is provided in Des Moines for travel to and from job sites in Ames and Des Moines areas.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
