POSITION SUMMARY
To help maintain thephysical condition of buildings within Housing and Extended FacilitiesDepartment in operating condition.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Assumes primary responsibility for the safe conditionof flooring, doors frames, doors, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling,hardware, and similar structural elements.
2.Does all carpentry / painting repair work as assigned.
4.Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on theproper use and care of hand tools (such as hammers, saws, chisels, planes),equipment (power saws, drills, rivet guns), hardware (nails, screws, glue), andmaterials (lumber, acoustical tiles).
5.Works with the Housing and Extended FacilitiesSupervisors in estimating costs of carpentry repair projects in terms of laborand materials.
Also sketch out and doesmaterial takeoffs on small carpentry remodeling projects.
6.Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase.
7.Inspects facilities on a regular basis for purposes oflife and health safety, and preventive maintenance.
8.Repairs, refinishes, and replaces cabinets andfurniture as required.
9.Shall alternate on call duties with other Housing andExtended Facilities employees.
10. Other duties assigned.
Job Qualifications : MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Carpenter / Painter I (Range 13) :
Formal apprenticeshiptraining or 1 year carpenter experience.Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Knowledge or training in the safe applicationof paint.Must show competence in thecarpenter trade.Must possess current Alaska driver's licenseand have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehiclesor obtainment of license within 90 days of hire.
Carpenter / PainterII (Range 14) :
Formal apprenticeshiptraining or 3 years carpenter experience.Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Knowledge or training in the safe applicationof paint.Must show competence in thecarpenter trade.Must possess current Alaska driver's licenseand have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehiclesor obtainment of license within 90 days of hire.
Carpenter / PainterIII (Range 15) :
Formal apprenticeshiptraining or 5 years carpenter experience.Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Knowledge or training in the safe applicationof paint.Must show competence in thecarpenter trade.Must possess current Alaska driver's licenseand have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehiclesor obtainment of license within 90 days of hire.
