Manhattan Kayak is a community of awesome people who love having fun outdoors. Spend the summer on the water introducing people to the joy of paddling in NYC.

We're hiring natural leaders to guide river trips from 1-30 miles on the lively waters of NYC. You'll get training, competitive wages, flexible schedule, 50% payback of certs and gear costs, and boat storage.

As a guide, you'll champion proper technique, take paddlers to new places, and learn to navigate tough situations. Being in the Hudson River Park near Times Square, we offer rentals, classes and trips to both first-timers and experts from around the world. Boats include sea kayaks, surf skis, sit-on-top kayaks, outrigger canoes, and stand up paddle boards.

Responsibilities

• Lead river trips ranging from 1 mile to 30 miles based on your experience level
• Teach essentials of paddling and safety on-land and on-water
• Check-in, outfit, launch and land paddlers
• Understand and adapt plans based on tidal currents, weather, and marine traffic
• Set up and care for boats and gear

Required Skills

• Excellent communication skills
• On-water guiding experience
• Able to lift and carry kayaks and paddle boards
• CPR and First Aid certs or able to attain them
• ACA or BCU kayaking or paddle boarding certs or able to attain them

Nice to Haves

• Local on-water knowledge of NYC waterways
• Person who enjoys captivating and entertaining other people
• Sensitivity toward people of different cultures and personalities

Hours

Part-time including weekends from early May to mid October. Enjoy a flexible schedule. Hours vary based on our activity schedule, the weather and your schedule

• $17 per hour for entry-level to $30 for seasoned experts
