Mandel Jewish Community Center Of The Palm Beaches... is Hiring a WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR Near Boynton, FL

To create a positive learning environment for swim instruction for all age groups. Responsibilities include age group coaching duties with emphasis on safety, proper skill development, seasonal planning, daily workouts, goal setting and promotion of both competitive swim and team goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure the safety of swim team/ lesson members, performing lifesaving and/ or first aid procedures when necessary.
  • Enforce team rules and policies as well as pool rules and regulations.
  • Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe.
  • Conduct swim team workouts and provide instruction to swim team members: enhance their swimming skills and development.
  • Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress.
  • Perform various clerical duties in support of the swim team such as responding to parents and swimmers’ questions and memos, (in person, via email or phone) creating workouts, taking attendance, and assisting with meet entries as needed.
  • Be Familiar and operate a variety of pool, office and coaching equipment including computer, copier or assigned software.
  • Complete records and reports
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor such as lifeguarding as needed, assisting with picking up/drop off children from preschool, filling in for the Aquatics Manager when not present, (including teaching learn to swim classes for preschool)
  • Responsible for maintaining positive, courteous, and professional relationships with all JCC staff, professional staff from other related agencies and the greater community.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
  • Current Certification in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer are required.
  • Current certifications in the following are preferred: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds), bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, and sitting.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • The noise level is mild to moderate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Instructors and coaches must be able to see and hold an image of a student’s performance of a stroke in memory to provide feedback and correction. Instructors must have the physical flexibility required to demonstrate and perform all six of the basic swimming strokes; and must also be able to tread water and float on front and back. Instructors must be able to see in bright light. (Instructors must provide their own equipment, i.e., sunglasses, for dealing with glare and bright light conditions.) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WSI’s are expected to be attired appropriately for entering the water as part of their teachings’ are expected to enter the water as needed to perform maintenance and other functions and should be able to return to their initial post for an extended period, even in wet clothing.
