Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland is Hiring a J-Day Camp Aquatics Supervisor Near Beachwood, OH

The Pool Supervisor must be American Red Cross (or equivalent) lifeguard certified prior to camp, and is responsible for planning and facilitating swim instruction, lake activities and free swim and supervision. The Aquatics Director is responsible for the oversight of all aquatics staff and the designing of engaging and enriching skill-based water activities for campers, and
building strong relationships with them to encourage their positive growth in this area. While the Manager’s primary role in camp is to manage the aquatics program, they have camp wise responsibilities and are a member of the Halle Park leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and schedules lifeguard shifts at the Halle Park location.
  • Assists Camp Director and program director on pool and lake activity scheduling.
  • Manages Lifeguards and swim instructors to ensure adequate coverage of pool and lake activities.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemicals levels and facility maintenance.
  • Required to maintain lifeguard certification and willingness to step in and perform all duties and responsibilities required of lifeguards as needed.
  • Organize all ongoing trainings for aquatics staff.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area and performs regular facility safety checks.
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with J-Day Camps policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships and communications with the members, participants, and other staff as well as campers.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatics areas.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by J-Day Camps and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Performs rescue equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Reviews and prepares performance evaluations for Lifeguards.
  • Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
  • Serve as a positive role model in the camp community and represent camp values
  • Foster an atmosphere of positivity, collaboration, support and inclusivity where learning is hands-on and fun
  • Oversee the evaluation of aquatics abilities of campers, and ensure that lifeguards are providing competent, safe swim lessons that integrate progressive skill development with J-Day Camps values and are appropriate for the age and ability of campers, providing accommodations when necessary
  • Evaluate aquatics abilities of campers, and effectively facilitate safe swim and water activities
  • Implement safety procedures, protocols, and supervision with an ability to recognize victims in distress, activities and water/weather conditions which may put swimmers at risk, and physical hazards which could injure swimmers
  • Develop special event days, clinics, tournaments, and workshops; create back-up plans for severe weather
  • Facilitate activities in a way that engages campers at all times and fosters the development of a growth mindset, self-respect, self-confidence, positive social relationships, teamwork
  •  Perform other related duties as assigned by Camp Director

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years or older and and have experience working with children ages 5-13
  • Must have experience supervising staff in an aquatics setting
  • Must have demonstrated ability to lifeguard, and instruct a group of children in swimming with a strong understanding of instruction techniques and skill development
  • Must be a caring, empathetic, patient, hardworking, and diligent professional who exhibits sound judgment
  • Must take initiative and be creative, enthusiastic, open-minded, and high-energy
  • Must possess strong communication skills and comfort in communicating with children and peers
  • Must have the ability to function both independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience and/or certification in lifeguarding and swim instruction in a camp or similar setting is preferred
  • Must be available for full training and summer: June 5 – August 11
