POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Spare Transit Bus Driver will transport passengers by bus on regularly scheduled bus routes throughout the city or on Demand Response schedule in the service area, as needed due to staffing requirements.

SUPERVISOR

This position reports to the Assistant Director.

WORK SCHEDULE

Hourly position, minimum of 40 hours per week, in compliance with the Current Bargaining Agreement.

JOB DUTIES

· Follows a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers.

· Collects fares and answers questions about the bus route.

· Communicates with the dispatcher via two-way radio during the route; provides updates to the dispatcher and reports emergencies, traffic patterns, or accidents.

· Assists passengers on and off the bus when help is needed.

· Visually inspects the bus before beginning the day’s assigned route.

· Reports any mechanical issues with the bus such as brakes, steering, or other issues.

· Prepares an observation report when shift is finished.

· Delivers fares to the cashier office.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school degree minimum, equivalent or greater. Some college or work experience in transportation, focus on safety preferred.
• Knowledge of local streets
• Must hold a valid driver license for two (2) years.
• Possession of or ability to obtain CDL-B, Passenger Endorsement, School Bus Certificate, Air Brake
• Must have an excellent driving history Must have the ability to pass a physical examination in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
• Must pass a criminal background check
• Prolonged periods of operating the bus

Any person applying for this position must inform Manchester Transit Authority of all previous employment as the driver of a commercial vehicle for the past ten (10) years.

• Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws
• Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems
• Excellent time management skills
• Must be able to assist passengers when needed

• Hourly Pay Rate based on the Current Bargaining Agreement

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.50 - $27.00 per hour
