Manatee County Government is Hiring a Housing & Community Development Technician Near Bradenton, FL

Location: 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34208
Days and Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

This classification is responsible for performing technical and administrative work associated with housing and community development activities of the department. Responsibilities include evaluating and determining eligibility for programs to achieve programmatic goals. Position requires the ability to work proactively and professionally with citizens. 

Working Conditions

Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 50 lbs. with assistance. 

Essential Functions

These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.

Assists in the implementation of housing and community development programs through contract management and compliance monitoring of federal, state and local housing and community development funding of loans, grants and agreements.

Performs all aspects of income eligibility determination for compliance with State, Federal and Local housing and community development program requirements.

Coordinates provision of information to the public of additional information, including access to other agencies providing services such as budget and debt service management, real estate laws, home maintenance, and other community development related matters.

Converts/data entry of source documents into computer-acceptable forms utilizing a computer.

Prepares technical and statistical reports. Performs clerical or other support functions including preparing case files, coordinating meetings, preparing materials, responding to requests for information from the public. 

Screens and refers callers, answers various inquiries, provides information on departmental services and functions.

Plans, organizes, and schedules appointments and meetings. Attends meetings to take minutes and document follow up actions, as requested. 

Maintains division or section files and records, including some that may be sensitive and/or confidential. Ensures all records retention requirements are met.

Updates and maintains office policies and procedures.

Maintains office supply inventory. Orders supplies as needed and authorized.

Makes travel arrangements for management and other employees as directed. 

Works on special projects as assigned. 

Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

High school diploma. Minimum of two years' work experience in administrative services, community development, housing, eligibility determination or related field. 

Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, local, state and federal programs relating to housing, community development, and economic development programs. 

Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, monitoring and enforcement procedures as related to established program requirements. 

Ability to research, and effectively relate to others local, state and federal rules and regulations related to housing and community development programs. 

Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, public and private agencies involved in the community development and housing programs. 

Ability to consistently interact with other County employees and the public in a proactive, effective and tactful manner. 

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing. 

Knowledge of data entry methods and of the operation of data entry equipment.

Ability to research, and effectively relate to others, local, state and federal rules and regulations related to housing, community development and economic development programs. 

Ability to prepare and maintain concise, accurate records and reports and efficiently operate a personal computer and applicable software programs.

Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, creating and developing spreadsheets. 

Ability to climb, bend, stoop and reach; ability to work outdoors under variable weather conditions. 

Ability to work flexible hours, when requested.
