Manassas City Public Schools is Hiring a Workforce Development Specialist (FG) PC 2403 for the 2022-2023 School Year Near Manassas, VA

 **Important Information: This position is for a two (2) year period with one (1) year remaining. Once the two (2) years are complete, the position will be eliminated.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Director of Special Education/Building Principal

General Responsibilities:

Coordinate services for students with disabilities that enable them to transition from elementary school through high school graduation in pursuit of career or post-secondary education opportunities

Essential Duties:

  • Teaches an employment readiness course for students seeking independent work opportunities after graduation.
  • Develops and oversees both supported and independent internship opportunities within the community and within the school division.
  • Facilitates tours of workplace settings and job shadowing experiences.
  • Conducts tours of intermediate, middle, and high school for transition purposes.
  • Provides professional development for special education students who are transitioning and assists in the development of individual transition plans.
  • Collaborates with teachers on selecting, conducting, and using data from transition assessments.
  • Monitor compliance of quality transition plans.
  • Ensures that students are invited to IEP meetings as required.
  • Serves as the division I’m Determined liaison.
  • Collaborate with, and facilitate referrals to DARS, WWRC and other community agencies to assist students, parents, and school personnel in planning transition programs, transition fairs, Future Quest, Project PERT, etc.
  • Consults with staff and students regarding the creation of a robust community based instruction program.
  • Attends meetings on the local, regional, and state level pertaining to transition programs for individuals with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with the high school’s Counseling Department and CTE Department to:
    1. Enroll students with disabilities into the GED program as needed.
    2. Ensure students with disabilities are on track for graduation.
    3. Monitor all credit accommodations for students with disabilities.
    4. Provide an array of post-secondary opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Completes required information for Indicator 13.
  • Serves as role model.
  • Performs other duties as requested/assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
  • Knowledge of Credit Accommodations for Students with Disabilities.
  • Knowledge of state regulations governing special education.
  • Knowledge of all areas of exceptionality.
  • Knowledge of tests and measurement.
  • Skill in working effectively as a consultant.
  • Skill in developing and implementing learning strategies.
  • Skill in written communication.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work in a timely manner.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three years special education teaching experience

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
