Manassas City Public Schools is Hiring a Computer Technology Teacher PC 2318 for 2021-2022 School Year Near Manassas, VA

Position Title: Computer Technology Teacher

Pay Grade: Per Instructional Salary Schedule Period of Employment: 10 months

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Administrator, CTE K-12 Supervisor

General Responsibilities: Provide competency-based instruction in topics related to Computer Technology programs, including but not limited to topics in Cybersecurity, Coding, Programming, and Information Technology. Responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and upgrading curricula to meet current industry needs and standards.

Essential Duties:

  • Delivers appropriate Computer Technology curriculum for students in grades 9-12.
  • Teaches knowledge and understanding of computer technology careers.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in Computer Technology activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Acquires professional knowledge and stays current on any new developments in the Computer Technology field by attending seminars, participating in professional organizations, workshops, and/or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with other professional staff members, especially the Instructional Technology Training Specialist, Technology Support Specialist, and participates in faculty meetings, Collaborative Learning Teams, and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids, supplies, and equipment and maintain inventory records in accordance with District Policies and Procedures.
  • Stays well-informed of all Virginia Department of Education expectations and requirements related to Computer Technology instruction.
  • Participates in making curriculum revisions/realignment of standards addressing the incorporation of 21st Century Learning Skills.
  • Identifies best practices for instructional delivery and provides staff with professional development in computer technology to improve student achievement and engagement in learning such as problem-based learning, engineering design, etc.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong foundational knowledge in computer technology.
  • Prefer experience in the workforce environment and the ability in developing and implementing curriculum designed to improve achievement in Computer Technology.
  • An understanding of formative/summative assessment and the ability to assist administrators and teachers in analyzing and interpreting data as it pertains to setting improvement goals and targets.
  • Understanding of best teaching practices related to Computer Technology instruction.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with administrators and teachers to meet established goals.
  • Serves as a role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with a related endorsement in Business Technology or Computer Science Education.
  • Experience in computer systems (hardware and software) required.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
