HOPE is a residential/outpatient chemical dependency treatment facility for justice-involved clients re-entering the community. Located in Henderson, Texas, the HOPE treatment facility is looking for a Treatment Specialist who can perform moderately complex substance abuse counseling.

Position Summary:

Reports to the substance abuse counselor II. Responsible for performing education work within Substance Abuse Residential and Outpatient Therapeutic Community (IPTC) programs. Work involves assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of activities; and coordinating with substance abuse treatment counselors and other departments to ensure the maximum utilization for resources available chemical dependency treatment and rehabilitation in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential Functions:

1. Provides didactic sessions according to designated curricula within the program. Presents education and life skills classes to assist offenders with basic education on these topics.

2. Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) within the facility working closely with correctional staff to create a living environment that is peer driven.

3. Guides and assists offenders in complying with facility rules and regulations. Supervises offender work functions in accordance with program policies such as morning wake up routines according to established schedules.

4. Monitors offender behavior and reports incidents, inappropriate or unusual behaviors to appropriate treatment team staff. Notifies appropriate personnel of offenders failing to comply with policies and procedures.

5. Maintains offender and other records regarding services provided to include workload statistics; compiles data and submits reports and related documentation as appropriate.

6. Assist with development of an Individual Progress Summary for each offender to reflect the evaluation results together with comments about the offender’s level of participation and quality of completion in the program.

7. Adheres to the core functions within practicum guidelines of Department of State Health Services LCDC-I licensure and Texas Certification Board of Addictions Professionals CCJP-A certification.

8. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.

9. Maintain accountability of staff, offenders, and property; adhere to safety practices

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) Associate's degree in the field of psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, criminal justice, or education is preferred; related experience is a plus. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management. Must successfully complete a TDCJ Approved Correctional Awareness Training (CAT).

Post Hire Requirements:

Within 180 days of employment, must have a letter of registration as a CI from the Texas Department of State Health Services or current certification as a CCJP-A as approved by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
