Job SummaryWe are seeking a Social Studies educator that has both depth and breadth of content expertise to team with our Social Studies department as well as a Grade Level Academy Team. Applicants should have experience with student-centered educational practices, a broad array of assessment strategies, and be comfortable with teaching all levels of learners across multiple disciplines within Social Studies. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience teaching Government, US History, and World History. Applicants are expected to be proficient with various forms of communication and instructional technology. Applicants will also be expected to be involved with co-curricular activities and/or mentoring students. In addition, we are seeking applicants with experience in service-oriented, project-based learning. A teacher within this role would be expected to design and implement learning experiences that are multidimensional, collaborative, and differentiated in addition to bringing an empathetic mindset to the learning process.
Essential Duties
  • Creates and implements highly innovative, well-prepared lesson plans for a balanced program of instruction, application and class work activities within the Social Studies curriculum for all assigned classes
  • Communicates student progress and class objectives to parents on a regular basis
  • Participates in Student Life by moderating an extracurricular activity or coaching a sport
  • Keeps students actively engaged in learning by regularly utilizing student-centered learning methods
  • Designs, adapts, and delivers instruction to address each student’s diverse learning strengths and needs and creates opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in different ways
  • Understands and values the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion as essential to curricular design.
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards, acting as a role model
  • Builds mutual trust, respect and cooperation with students and colleagues
Competencies Required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work independently and effectively with other team members
  • Good team player and very reliable in working without close supervision
  • Passionate about actively supporting the School’s mission
  • Ability to teach multiple disciplines within the Social Studies department
