ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MALTHOUSE OPERATIONAL DUTIES

  • Support all company initiatives, programs, and policies with a positive attitude.
  • Enforce Plant Operating Rules and Regulations and Safety Rules.
  • Work diligently and cooperatively with other employees to achieve all goals, targets and initiatives set forth by Management.
  • Closely monitor malting process and act diligently to avoid any quality issues or production delays.
  • Supervise malt production personnel, with overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of his/her unit.
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Supervisor carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Participate in all required training and education. Supervisor should develop his/her own Career Development Plan under the direction of Management and Human Resource Department.
  • Oversee daily operations on the floor to avoid any delays, recover from delays, prevent accidents, and maintain quality and efficiency. Please notify Process Manager of noteworthy actions taken.
  • Walk through/ monitor production facilities in both the Malthouse and Elevator operations. Observe worker activities, ensuring that production/process controls, in process measurements and safety standards are being met. Send a weekly report to Process Manager via email.
  • Learn the operations in the Elevator and Malthouse to be able to run the two different departments on vacation relief for both the Process Manager and Elevator Supervisor.
  • Monitor sanitation requirements, devise and follow-up on the execution of cleaning schedules for both the Malthouse and Elevator facilities and grain paths for each. This should lead to a Germination Vessel (spell out) rating higher than 7.45 out 10, GMP 100% completed / Elevator operational areas of a 7.45 out of 10, GMP 100% with no major sanitation issues during tours, inspections, GMP audits or other audits by a 3rd party.
  • Conduct maintenance/repair walk-through inspections of both the Malthouse and Elevator operations, observing maintenance related items which require attention. Goal is zero Preventive Maintenance outstanding items older than 2 weeks.
  • Coordinate maintenance of the production facility with maintenance personnel. Zero production deviation due to tardiness notifying mechanics or electricians
  • Monitor production related supplies, instruments and chemical levels in order to achieve zero shortages. All instruments must be in good working order, calibrated and operational.
  • Perform malt surveys and adjust process accordingly. At least 85% of the batches should be within the overgrown target.

ELEVATOR OPERATIONAL DUTIES:

  • Manage day to day Production Duties of Elevator Personnel for all shifts during the standard Elevator week of Monday morning through Saturday morning.
  1. Plan and organize Elevator production, sanitation, preventative maintenance and byproduct sampling and analysis for all shifts based on the Production Plan, Production Schedule, Shipment Schedule and incoming barley.
  2. Communicate daily and weekly Production and sanitation goals to all shifts. Assign personnel as required. Ensure that the Sanitation Records are up maintained up to date.
  3. Manage shift work schedules, including vacation scheduling for all shifts.
  4. Perform or arrange required classroom and on the job training and maintain training records in employee files.
  5. Coach personnel, including employee behavior corrections.
  6. Communicate safety items immediately.
  • Report daily Elevator Production status at the morning Production Meeting.
  • Manage rail logistics.
  1. Order in rail cars for loading and unloading using the BNSF web site and confirming the orders with the Division Trainmaster and local Yardmasters.
  2. Release unloaded barley cars in a timely manner to minimize demurrage.
  3. Enter shipments in SAP daily.
  4. Daily, ensure that all shipment waybills have been accepted by BNSF using available BNSF reports.
  5. Place Rail Car Equipment Requests in advance for empty rail cars based on the future shipment schedule, S& OP, and the Production Plan. Consult with the Plant Manager and/or Process Manager.
  6. Daily, monitor and verify that the Rail Car Equipment Requests are in line with the shipment schedule. If needed, adjust future Equipment Requests to minimize demurrage.
  7. Maintain a working relationship with the BNSF Equipment Group.
  8. Daily, monitor rail car supply and pipeline using available BNSF reports to ensure that rail cars are available to meet the shipment schedule. Communicate any issues to the Plant Manager.
  9. Daily, monitor demurrage by using available BNSF reports and determine whether demurrage charges are valid or invalid. Dispute any charge deemed invalid. Communicate the reasons for the valid charges to the Plant Manager.
  • Be fluent in the use of SAP, including barley rail unloads, barley main cleaning, malting, in Plant barley and malt transfers, malt blending, malt shipments, creating and executing variants, error corrections, etc.
  • Manage the Plant Inventory in SAP.
  1. Daily, verify that all Elevator SAP entries are current and accurate.
  2. Daily, make required SAP adjustments or corrections to bins.
  3. Perform month end Physical Count.
  4. Document the cut off for moth end.
  5. Compare SAP and Physical counts and make necessary adjustments in SAP.
  6. Report the month end numbers to Finance/Accounting.
