Learning Support Specialist - 2024-2025 school year

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support daily learning in Makom Community’s Lab School.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Teaching & Learning to develop and implement support plans for learners.

How will you do that?

  • Regular Schedule Monday through Friday 2pm-6pm. (20 hours per week)
  • This role is fully on-site for Jewish Enrichment, which runs Monday through Friday 3pm-6pm.
  • Additional meetings may take place before 2pm, pending your schedule.
  • Meet with the Director of Teaching & Learning and classroom teachers to develop and implement support plans for various learners.
  • Build strong relationships with learners and classroom teachers to support kids in moments of dysregulation. You will support learners in the process of building new skills to support regulation.
  • Float among our classrooms to support learners from K-7th grade.
  • You’re an important support for a kid who needs a break, an additional snack, or time to debrief their day before entering an afternoon of learning.
  • When invited, join the Director of Teaching & Learning and/or Executive Director for meetings with parents to better understand a child’s support needs. This will be occasional.
  • Participate in occasional PD around supporting learning and individualization
  • Grow Makom Community’s culture of intentionality, empathy, and listening deeply to children and their adults.
  • Set goals for your own learning and growth and check in with them regularly in supervision.
  • Pick up students from area schools daily
  • Have regular supervision with Executive Director

Desired Experience and Education

  • Expertise in applying
  • Familiar with non-violent communication and approaching behavior as communication
  • Confident in your ability to stay regulated yourself even when kids aren’t regulated
  • 5 years of experience working with children in formal or informal education settings
  • Preferred: Degree in counseling, social work, or education
