Title: Athletic DirectorDivision: Upper School Reports To: Assistant PrincipalStatus: Full-time, Exempt (Year-Round)Supervises: Part-time Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic DirectorSalary: $90,000-$100,000 $12,000 Temporary Cost of Living Allowance and MWA BenefitsPosition SummaryThe role of the Athletic Director (AD) is to develop, implement, manage, and provide oversight of Making Waves Academy (MWA) interscholastic and middle school athletics. Athletics is an educational endeavor, so participation in athletics at MWA should be aligned with MWA’s mission, vision, and values. The goals of the athletics at MWA are to provide MWA students opportunities to participate in competitive team sports, learn valuable lessons regarding teamwork, discipline, and effort, and provide a fun and safe way to build school unity and spirit. Athletics also allows students to experience the benefits of mentorship, coaching, and appropriate and positive relationships with adults. The AD also ensures that the school's academic goals are not compromised in the pursuit of athletics. AD duties also include background checks of coaches and trainers and adhering to annual training and safety drills that support the safety of students competing and practicing for their various sports. Lastly, the AD is responsible for ensuring the MWA Upper School is in compliance with CA state law, CA Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and North Coast Section (NCS), Bay Area Conference (BAC), and Bay Counties League (BCL) rules and by-laws governing high school interscholastic athletics. These duties include being the key liaison with external constituents such as CIF and NCS officials, Athletic Directors and coaches at other schools, MWA coaches, faculty, parents, and students. The AD may also be asked to serve as part of the Principal’s leadership team and supervise the athletic trainer and assistant AD.
