Salaried Full time

Field, US

Work Schedule

Variable work schedule including nights/weekends.

Work Environment

This position is field-based which will require frequent travel between worksites located throughout the United States in a variety of conditions and terrains. The work environment will be outside in isolated areas throughout Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah, and other states as needed. The work environment will be subject to heat or cold from weather along with noise from machinery.

Position Summary

Plan, implement and coordinate safety programs, requiring application of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes and preventive measures. 
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Travel to remote locations via auto, truck, bus, aircraft (large and small), and helicopter.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, MSHA, OSHA, & DOT regulations, and industrial processes. 
  • Inspect facilities, drill sites, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. 
  • Conduct and coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy. 
  • Interview clients and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents. 
  • Review plans and specifications for job sites and drilling rigs to determine whether all safety requirements have been met. 
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents. 
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards. 
  • Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations. 
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to the company on how to handle health, safety, and environmental related problems and make needed changes. 
  • Confer with medical professionals to assess health risks and to develop ways to manage health issues and concerns. 
  • Travel by foot over very rough terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Install safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation. 
  • Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated. 
  • Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

  • Education: College Degree preferred, but not required
  • Experience: One to two years related experience 
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Certificates & Licenses: Must have working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations. 
  • Other Requirements: MSHA, OSHA Instructor Certification preferred.
