Maintenance is Hiring a GROUNDS (4578) (#4578-08082022) Near Vancouver, WA

8 Hours Per Day (6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch

260 days per year

A valid First Aid/CPR card must be submitted to Classified Personnel within 30 days of hire. Only courses with a "hands-on" component taught by a certified instructor are acceptable.

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 08/15/22.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The grounds position will perform a variety of grounds-related tasks in and around all district facilities. This position will be responsible to perform all aspects of grounds maintenance and development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Communicate effectively with staff and the general public.
  2. Perform turf maintenance in and around courtyards, landscapes, playgrounds, and competition ball fields at all district facilities as described above.
  3. Mow, fertilize, aerate, cultivate, apply top dressing, seed, mulch, weed, plant, and mulch.
  4. Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as various tractors with specialized attachments, loaders, backhoes, sweepers, dump trucks, and large turf mowers (both rotary and gang style).
  5. Remove ice, snow, and debris from storm damage as necessary.
  6. Perform first aid/CPR when necessary.
  7. Travel from location to location to accomplish tasks.
  8. Obtain herbicide/pesticide application license and keep accurate records of products used in the district.
  9. Successfully complete all required district training within a timely manner.
  10. Must comply with all district and government safety regulations.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Direct the work of helpers when necessary.
  2. Apply herbicides and pesticides after State license is acquired.
  3. Perform other related duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Various tractors with specialized attachments, loaders, backhoes, sweepers, dump trucks, large turf mowers (both rotary and gang style), manually operated tools and equipment, and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum of two years’ experience involving commercial landscape maintenance, or a minimum of one year of experience involving commercial landscape maintenance and a minimum of one year of experience involving facilities/maintenance/grounds support.
  2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  3. Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to follow through.
  4. Demonstrated ability to operate the tools and equipment as listed above.
  5. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and delegate tasks.
  6. Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance on all equipment used to perform the essential functions as listed above.
  7. Must be able to travel from location to location to accomplish tasks.
  8. Must possess or be able to acquire a first aide/CPR card within 30 days of employment.
  9. Must be able to acquire a Commercial Driver's License (CDL- A or B).
  10. Must be able to acquire an herbicide/pesticide application license within the first six months of employment.
  11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
