MaineHealth is Hiring a Simulation Training Specialist - Department of Medical Education Near Portland, ME

Summary

Come join our talented Simulation team at MaineHealth! Our center is located in Portland, Maine and serves the entire MaineHealth system. We are a unique academic teaching hospital with simulation programming for:

  • 300 Residents and fellows in more than 30 programs
  • 120 Medical students from our MaineTrack program through Tufts University School of Medicine
  • Inter-professional clinical teams from multiple service lines throughout MMC/MH
  • Systems testing of clinical spaces and processes

The Sim Center facilitates more than 500 events and approximately 20,000 learner contact hours annually. The successful candidate will join a fast paced, high functioning team producing simulation events using high-fidelity manikins, Standardized Patients (SPs), task trainers with opportunity for virtual and augmented reality components. Events occur in our 18,000-square foot sim center in Portland and in clinical spaces at MMC and across MH.

Simulation Training Specialists, also commonly referred to as “SP Trainers,” are vital to delivering highly realistic simulated clinical scenarios, by:

  • Developing and delivering highly engaging case-specific SP training activities
  • Properly training SPs to accurately and consistently portray patient case history to meet learning objectives
  • Casting and scheduling SPs appropriately for a variety of cases
  • Contributing to new and ongoing SP professional development activities
  • Participating in new and ongoing SP recruitment efforts
  • Preparing room set-ups, props, and supplies for scenarios
  • Collaborating with SP curriculum specialist and, when necessary, clinical faculty to revise case content templates and supporting documentation
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with simulation staff to successfully facilitate events requiring multiple modalities
  • Contributing to strategic initiatives and research efforts
  • Serving as an instructor in faculty development activities

In addition, Simulation Training Specialists are encouraged to pursue Professional Development opportunities that allow for internal and external collaboration throughout the MaineHealth system locally and simulation community globally.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 5 years' equivalent work experience in a related field such as healthcare, simulation, corporate training, or theater.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: See "Education." Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting defined deadlines.
  4. Demonstrate high level written communication and organization skills, with experience developing curriculum preferred.
  5. Proficient in basic computer skills, including Word and Excel.
  6. Clinical knowledge preferred.
