Summary

Position Summary
The Senior Medical Director reports to the Vice President, Physician and Advanced Practice Professional (APP) Services – Southern Region. This person is responsible for contributing to the development of organizational standards, strategies, and objectives for operational, financial, and clinical performance that align to the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of MaineHealth. Collaborating with the respective Associate Vice President as well as the Medical Director, if applicable, this person is responsible for operational, financial, and clinical strategies, and providing medical group leadership. This individual will support and be an active leader in the MaineHealth Medical Greater Portland region for quality, safety, regulatory, and growth initiatives. This opportunity is open to both physician and APP team members.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  1. Education: MD/DO from an accredited school for physician candidates; Master’s Degree for APP candidates
  2. License/Certifications: Licensure as a physician or PA, NP, CRNA or CNM in the state of practice; Federal DEA number; medical staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges at Southern Maine Medical Center; physicians must achieve and maintain Board Certification in respective specialty
  3. Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of clinical practice experience; minimum of 5 years progressive management experience; prior leadership training is preferred
  4. Ability to navigate a matrixed organization and develop relationships with multiple stakeholder groups
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to flex to the needs of differing stakeholder groups
  6. Knowledgeable of relevant current health care issues, for example: 1) Value-based Care, 2) Physician Compensation
  7. Creates, interprets and comprehends productivity, quality, and financial reports
  8. Ability to lead and influence without direct authority while requiring accountability
  9. Understands concepts of motivation and organizational culture building
  10. Maintains knowledge of significant trends in healthcare and various regulatory standards (state, federal, Joint Commission)
  11. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  12. Ability to model and adhere to the MaineHealth mission, values, vision and ethics
  13. Strong understanding of principles of patient-centered care, physician compensation systems, medical technology, including electronic medical records, and quality/service improvement strategies
  14. Maintains strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive medico-legal and professionalism issues
