Summary

  • Position Summary

    The MaineHealth Institute for Research is seeking a Director of Research Ethics & Complianceto join our executive leadership team. Under the direction of the Vice President for Research, this Director is responsible for managing an effective research ethics and compliance program to facilitate the pursuit of MaineHealth’s research programs. Experience with at least several of the following will be required: IRB, IACUC, IBC, SRC, Research Misconduct, Conflict of interest, and HIPAA research issues. In our research programs, compliance with pertinent regulations and policies is essential to engendering public trust. The Office of Research Ethics & Compliance that this Director will actively manage has three main responsibilities: research compliance oversight; research compliance education; and to function as a compliance information clearinghouse. The Director will implement and manage a research compliance, oversight, and education program that provides support and education in regulatory requirements for the scientific research of faculty members, staff, and students. Certification as a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) is expected.

    This position is a hybrid role, based at our Westbrook, ME, Research Ethics & Compliance offices.

  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in relevant discipline preferred.
    • License/Certification: N/A.
    • Experience: Ten (10) years of related experience required. Experience in fiscal management.
    • Thorough knowledge of current applicable laws and regulations, including federal, state, and non-federal regulations surrounding research and research grants and contracts.
    • Experience working independently and within a team environment at various levels of an organization.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), including public speaking to facilitate training sessions, lead discussion groups, and deliver presentations.
    • Strong management skills with experience in staff oversight and professional development.
