MaineHealth is Hiring a CNA Apprentice - Biddeford Near Biddeford, ME

Summary

This is a collaborative partnership with MaineHealth, in collaboration with Maine Adult Education programs and the Maine Community College System, is offering a FREE 6-week, state approved CNA training program.

FREE Tuition through the Maine Community College System.

CASAS testing is required and administered through your local Adult Education center.

Updated immunization records are required upon applying.

Small class size with individual support, taught by experienced Registered Nurses (RNs), at five MaineHealth Local Hospital System Sites: Franklin Memorial Hospital, Mid Coast Hospital, Southern Maine Healthcare, Stephens Memorial Hospital, and Waldo County General Hospital

  • Includes the state CNA required curriculum of: 70 hours of class time, 20 hours of essential skills labs and 40 hours of clinical training at local hospitals
    • This will include one day of MaineHealth general orientation and a CPR course.
    • Quizzes will be done daily and an average 70% is necessary to stay in the program and pass the class.

CNA Education Program Requirements:

Learners will be required to:

  • Pass the CASAS Exam, which will be administered through local Adult Education centers.
  • Provide updated immunization records upon applying.
  • Attend MaineHealth’s CNA course as a paid, short-term temporary benefits-eligible employee at 32 hours/week for 6 weeks.
    • CNA Education Program position is paid at $17.34/hr, while completing the program requirements.
  • Fulfill all of the responsibilities of the CNA course in a satisfactory manner, including attendance at all classes, labs and clinical as scheduled, promptness, dependability and confidentiality.
  • Satisfy and fulfill all obligations and requirements regularly required of MaineHealth employees.
  • Successfully complete the requirements to obtain CNA certification for placement on the Maine State CNA Registry.

Position Summary

Under the supervision and direction of the CNA Program Instructor and/or Clinical Supervisor, CNA Preceptor and/or long-term care facility’s managers, the CNA Apprentice provides direct care to assigned residents/patients.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  2. License/Certifications: Must be accepted into Southern Maine Health Care’s C.N.A. Training Program to be eligible to be employed as a CNA Apprentice. Attendance and participation in Maine State approved CNA program which prepares the Apprentice to sit for the State of Maine CNA Certification Exam.
  3. Experience: N/A
  4. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  5. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  6. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
