Maine Municipal Association is Hiring a Staff Attorney Near Augusta, ME

The Maine Municipal Association is currently accepting resumes for the position of Staff Attorney in its Legal Services Department. Our Legal Services Department provides legal assistance to member municipalities on a wide range of issues, with emphasis on telephone consultation and written opinions. The staff attorney position presents a truly unique opportunity to engage in meaningful work supporting communities across the state and is often at the forefront of emerging municipal issues.

Responsibilities: The candidate will provide direct legal advice to municipal members on various legal matters, present at training programs for municipal officials, draft and update manuals and other guidance materials, and occasionally draft amicus curiae briefs in appeals concerning issues of statewide concern. Responsibilities may also occasionally include appearance before legislative and administrative bodies and other special projects.

Qualifications:

- Must be currently admitted in good standing to the Maine State Bar.

- Must demonstrate excellent research, writing and oral communication skills.

- Experience in municipal law and an understanding of local government are desirable.
