The coastal community of Harpswell, Maine is seeking a full-time Town Planner with relevant background and experience. Harpswell has over 200 miles of waterfront that supports an important marine economy including commercial fishing. Its year-round population is just over 5,000 and there are more than 2,000 seasonal homes. The community faces a number of both opportunities and issues including those related to climate change and sea level rise. The Town Planner’s primary responsibility is providing support to the Planning Board and developing and overseeing land use policy. In addition the Planner is directly involved in a number of other aspects of municipal government including conservation, resiliency and sustainability, capital projects and housing. This is a highly responsible position that requires the ability to provide guidance in a number of interesting and evolving areas.
