OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Program Director and Deputy Program Director, the employee will assure that the day-to-day care of handicapped shelter clients are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for overall care and assistance to handicapped shelter clients
• Insures that: adequate and appropriate intakes/screening are performed; guests have an individual space; meals are served and cleaned up for handicapped clients; lights out are timely and respected; laundry and showers are working and available during assigned hours for handicapped clients; outside service providers are facilitated in their meetings with guests; all guests are treated with respect and care
• Assist all handicapped clients in showers, cleaning, dressing, personal hygiene, laundry services or movement to and from sleeping areas
• Responsible for all documentation on shift, including population statistics, incident reports and staff log
• Clean and sanitize sleeping areas for handicapped clients
• Responsible for chart notes
• Dispense resident medication and prescriptions
• Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• 21 years of age (required)
• Experience working as a health care aide (required)
• Experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering or being a member of a disadvantaged population (required)
• Experience in social services/substance abuse (preferred)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties
• Ability to communicate effectively and accurately
• Ability to be mature and confidential
• Knowledge of informal mental health/ substance abuse evaluation
• Have good interaction skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (Usually file boxes)
