Duties

Coordinate and manage the creation of a variety of digital media projects including social media ads, interactive PDFs, Email designs, animated gifs, and fillable forms. Create e-Publications that include interactive maps, video, hyperlinks, scrolling frames, page buttons, pop-ups, and other interactivity. Ensures publishing activities follow digital accessibility best practices and WCAG 2.0 guidelines and performs user accessibility testing for digital media publications. Performs user accessibility testing for digital media publications. Develop the UI/UX for web and mobile document services and applications. Create and design a variety of print projects including, but not limited to, Badges, Branding, Booklets, Books, Brochures, Business Cards, Cards, Certificates, Comment Cards, Congressional Records, Constituent Cards, Emergency Quick Cards, Envelopes, Flyers, Graphics, Graphs, Infographics, Logos, Journals, Labels, Maps, Memo Pads, Name Cards/Tents, Notecards, Newsletters, Pamphlet, Phone cards, Plaques, Pocket Cards, Pocket Folder, Post Cards, Public Law, Postcards, Red-Line, Resolutions, Scans, Self-Mailers, Stationery, Tabs, Tags, Travel Booklets, Town Hall Meetings, Welcome to Washington Booklets, and various others. Handle graphic production and create graphic elements, assets, and visual treatments that adapt and flow with responsive design systems. Serves as a back-up to the section lead in his/her absence. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • At least two to three years of graphic design experience.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of accessibility standards and best practices including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ARIA.
  • Experience with assistive technology (e.g., screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice recognition) in conducting accessibility testing.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Dreamweaver.
  • Advanced knowledge of established printing and graphics design principles, including practices used in composition, typesetting and publication layouts.
  • Knowledge of accessibility legislation such as the Section 508 and the European Accessibility Act (EAA).
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript, accessibility regulations, WCAG, and Section 508 compliance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Senate staff, and resolve customer problems.
  • Ability to effectively convey customer ideas in an appealing manner.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
  • This position may require the incumbent to be available for sudden recall in response to emergency events
    affecting the Senate campus/community, which may include after-hour or weekend work, and to potentially
    deploy to alternate sites in support of the Senate’s contingency operations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge in Creative Suite programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver, with a proven track record of creating visually stunning designs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating a wide range of print and digital media projects, from concept development to final execution, resulting in high-quality deliverables.
  • Extensive knowledge in HTML and CSS, enabling seamless integration of designs into web-based platforms and ensuring optimal user experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of 508 compliance standards, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all design work.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with team members to ensure our digital products have exceptional experiences for our customers.
  • Strong understanding of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.x)
  • Usage of accessible tools such as WAVE, JAWS, NVDA to test for accessibility barriers on digital formats.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to confer with customers and staff.
  • Frequently moves boxes/ equipment weighing less than 50 pounds for various needs.
  • This position requires in-person or virtual presence during meetings, and briefings with customers.
