Well, buckle up, buttercup, because we've got a job posting that'll make your inner machinist heart race! MVP is looking for Machinists/CNC Set-up and Programmers for our Machine Shop in Knoxville! In this role, you will set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines, and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. We want you to measure and inspect parts to assure conformance to engineering specifications. We will provide a Family. What You Will Do:
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard metrology equipment.
  • Fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Any additional duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
What You Will Need:
  • Associates degree in Industrial Arts of Metal Fabrication or 3 years experience as a machinist in an industrial toolroom.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 G.D.&T. standards.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge of standard metrology tools and inspection methods.
  • Excellent toolmaking and/or machine troubleshooting skills and the ability to work and communicate well in a team environment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane, solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Working near moving mechanical parts approximately 80% of the time. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • The noise level is moderate (examples: machine shop with various machines in operation).
