About the Role

The Structural Analysis Engineer performs structural analysis on Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) and Energy Storage System (ESS) components. The role involves performing structural analyses including, but not limited to, static, fatigue, damage tolerance and vibration, using classical hand calculations, Finite Element Methods, and other toolsets as required, in accordance with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform structural analysis of EPU and ESS components using classical analytical methods, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other industry standard toolsets.
  • Perform analysis to support the full phase of development, from preliminary sizing and optimization to certification support.
  • Analyze different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances, and other factors in the developmental process.
  • Prepare and approve analysis reports and present results during project reviews.
  • Assist in the design of EPU and ESS components, including but not limited to CAD model creation and drawing creation.
  • Drive the development of technical and certification requirements for Electric Propulsion Units for aviation applications, and the definition of test program requirements for validation and compliance.
  • Help establish clearly documented structural analysis requirements, methods, tools, and FEM techniques across the company.
  • Cooperate with other departments through the whole life cycle of the product.

Requirements 

  • Higher technical education (Mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related equivalent)
  • At least 7 years of experience with static, fatigue, damage tolerance & FEM analysis of aerospace, turbomachinery, or spacecraft structures, preferably in a product development environment
  • In-depth understanding of loading scenarios, free body diagrams, structural behavior of aircraft propulsion and energy storage system components
  • Experience in metallic and composite structural analysis using classical analysis methods.
  • Practical experience using Finite Element Analysis, ANSYS preferred, for metallic and composite analysis – including static, dynamic, and thermal analyses.
  • Experience performing damage tolerance analysis using software such as Nasgro and Darwin
  • Experience with creating and understanding engineering drawings.
  • Experience using CAD software, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with aerospace validation and certification processes.
  • Sound technical knowledge of electric machine design is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Passion for advancing sustainable air transport electric propulsion solutions.

This position's approximate base salary range is $140,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year, depending on years of experience and level of education.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. Under §120.15, a “U.S. Person” includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. As this position requires access to export-controlled data, an appropriate export authorization by the U.S. Government may be required prior to such access. Employment, and the continuity of employment of non-U.S. persons, is contingent upon the company’s ability to secure and maintain the necessary export control authorization.
