Project SEARCH Employment Speiclist

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Employment Specialist provides daily scheduled direct support and training to individuals with disabilities to maintain their employment in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provide transition programming to students in a workplace setting.
● Works closely with the teachers and students to develop career plans and action plans for site training
● Delivers end to end client support, both to host sites, interns/clients, families, and schools.
● Facilitates intern rotations, including identifying and creating/supporting any reasonable accommodations or training needed for interns.
● Provides job coaching to improve employment and revisits job skills as needed.
● Acts as a liaison between the client’s managers and family as needed.
● Seeks on the job training opportunities and process OJT referrals for VR clients.
● Assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in career advancement at their job.
● Works a flexible schedule that reflects the needs of job seekers including evening and weekend appointments.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:
● Strong office and productivity software
● Strong time management and prioritization
● Ability to follow directions communicated synchronously (in person or over digital communications) and asynchrony (posted notices, emails, etc.)
● Ability to communicate both in person and digitally or in writing.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
● Bachelor’s degree or relevant combination of education/experience required. Major in Education, Rehabilitative Service, or Business preferred.
● 3 Years of related experience in a non-profit environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
● Work is performed primarily in the community.

ABOUT Project SEARCH

Project SEARCH is a one-year, school-to-work program for young people in high school with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ages 18-21). The program is a total emergence from the classroom to the workplace.

Project SEARCH is a unique, business-led, one-year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace, serving young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their last year of high school. Project SEARCH combines real-life work experience with training in employability and independent living skills helping young people with significant disabilities make successful transitions to productive adult life.

After an initial orientation, skills assessment, and familiarization within the business environment, our interns develop a career plan that guides the internship selection process and individualized job search. Through a series of three targeted internships at a host site, interns acquire competitive, marketable, and transferable skills, while building communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Once interns master the core skills, additional skills are layered to improve marketability.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour
