JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Inpatient Occupational Therapy Clinical Director-MRSH-O Job Code: 220169 Immediate Supervisor: Director Inpatient Therapy Status: Exempt DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW Responsible to direct, supervise, and administer the overall operation of occupational therapy hospital-wide, in the assigned hospital. Maintains professional and administrative responsibility for personnel providing occupational therapy. Responsible for the clinical supervision of the occupational therapy staff to include completion of evaluation/performance appraisals, staff orientation and mentoring for the development of the clinical skills of occupational therapy professionals. Responsible for delivering and/or delegating patient care, including patient and family education and training. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (INFORMATION) A. Coordinates, analyzes and compiles short and long term goals for the development of clinical services and individual staff. B. Plans, coordinates and maintains current documentation for education and professional development of staff. C. Maintains and updates clinical service manuals, including those for orientation and education. D. Analyzes, plans, and implements ongoing quality improvement processes. E. Compiles, records and analyzes information through chart audits in order to ensure quality documentation and care delivery. F. Analyzes outcome data related to occupational therapy services, including program evaluation data, to give direction and manage the clinical provision of services. G. Plans and coordinates with educational institutions to ensure regular, high quality educational experiences for students training in the field of occupational therapy. H. Synthesizes, analyzes, compiles and records current research articles to keep the professional/clinical services current with the latest research, as well as for the development or expansion of services. I. Analyzes and make recommendations for purchase of special equipment and supplies within budget guidelines that promote quality service delivery. J. Contributes to the developing, writing and implementation of policies and procedures to promote consistency of operations. K. Compiles clinical service information and communicates to staff in a timely manner. L. Performs job duties of staff occupational therapist as outlined in that job description. (PEOPLE) A. Assists with planning recruiting activities; acts as a divisional representative on recruiting trips. B. Assists with interviewing, hiring, and terminating staff. C. Plans, coordinates and schedules new staff clinical service orientation and provides advice and guidance for new staff members. D. Ongoing supervision and evaluation of staff through competency assessment and performance reviews as well as informal discussions and consultations. E. Participates and assists in professional and facility committee and/or task forces. F. Communicates effectively with peers, physicians and staff to ensure quality service delivery. G. Communicates regularly and effectively with the Director Inpatient Therapy in order to achieve identified goals and objectives of Rehabilitation System and program. H. Works effectively with community groups and organizations who impact or have an impact on service delivery. I. Routinely meets with staff to maintain open communication and ensure quality service delivery. J. Coordinates and/or instructs and teaches staff new information through inservices and educational offerings. K. Coordinates and/or provides information to community and consumer groups through speaking engagements, lectures and workshops. L. Performs other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the division and facility. M. Must perceive customer relations as a primary focus, and continually strive to satisfy the needs of every customer in all areas of the work force. (THINGS) A. Operates equipment used for occupational therapy care. B. Maintains and ensures a safe environment for the department. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. C. Operates personal computer and applicable software applications. D. Ensures clean environment following protocols and procedures for environment and equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Medium work with frequent lifting. Moderate assist times 1 transfers for a patient of 250 pounds who is able to use his/her upper extremities for support routinely requires pulling/lifting force of approximately 50 pounds to be generated in order to complete a safe transfer. Requires sufficient strength to produce 50 pounds of force to push a wheelchair with a 300-pound individual on level surfaces. Constant walking with maximum duration of up 30 minutes sustained walking on tile, carpet and other surfaces. Must tolerate frequent standing with sustained periods of up to 1 hour on tile, carpet, and shower surfaces. Must tolerate frequent sitting with sustained periods of up to 1 hour. Frequent reaching with both arms at low, waist, and high levels. Frequent grasping of both hands for transfers and repositioning requiring normal grip strength based on national averages. Frequent stooping, bending, and twisting are required for patient care. Constant near visual acuity to evaluate and monitor patients. Ordinary hearing and speaking skills. May be exposed to biohazardous materials. May be prolonged exposure to high temperature and humid conditions and to disinfecting chemicals used in the pool. May be exposed to individuals who are in an agitated or aggressive state. QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training and/or Experience) Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree in occupational therapy. Current Nebraska license to practice or license pending. Three or more years of clinical experience required with competence in broad areas of occupational therapy. CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer preferred. Background checks are conducted.
