JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Aquatic Program Aide Job Code: 222018 Immediate Supervisor: Speech Therapy Clinical Supervisor TherapyPlus Status: Non-exempt DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW Responsible for assisting occupational/physical and therapist assistants to provide rehabilitative and technical care to the patient under the direction of licensed personnel. Responsible for safely transporting patients to and from therapy sessions. Responsible for safely assisting patients with ADL activities prior to and following sessions in the pool. Responsible for monitoring equipment and supplies. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (INFORMATION) 1. Support department by faxing, filing and copying documents when required in a timely manner. 2. Coordinate and maintain an organized filing system. 3. Copy patient and billing documents as designated. 4. Complete and record pool chemical testing/pH level and other data tracking as requested by supervisor. 5. Maintain inventory of supplies. 6. Inspect and maintain safety check list. (PEOPLE) 1. Transport patients safely to and from therapy sessions. 2. Assist patients with toileting, showering and dressing prior to and following therapy sessions. 3. May assist therapists, therapist assistants, students and other treating personnel in patient treatment and/or evaluation, in and out of the water. 4. May assist with patient group sessions as directed by supervisory staff. 5. Answer the telephone and relay messages. 6. Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, outside contacts/sources. 7. Supervise volunteers. 8. Follow instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department. 9. Must perceive customer relations as a primary focus, and continually strive to satisfy the needs of every customer in all areas of the work force. 10. In selected cases, perform patient treatment under the direction of supervising staff. 11. Participate and assist in department and facility committees and/or task forces. (THINGS) 1. Monitor and clean equipment on a daily basis to facilitate safety or operations. 2. Operate pool equipment including lift and rescue equipment. 3. Operate various types of wheelchairs and makes minor adjustments and repairs. 4. Set up equipment and supplies needed for treatment and clean up during and following treatment sessions. 5. Maintain a clean, organized and safe environment. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. 7. Use sphygmomanometer to accurately measure blood pressure. 8. Independently operate computer to retrieve data regarding patients’ and therapists’ schedules. 9. Operate telephone to receive and transfer calls and perform other telephone functions. 10. Operate fax machine and photocopy machine in order to copy, retain or distribute essential information. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Medium to heavy work requiring constant standing and walking, occasional lifting. Able to perform transfers with assistance for patients of various sizes whose body weight may be up to 250 pounds. Infrequently, body weight may exceed 250 pounds. Constant pushing of wheelchairs for up to 300 pounds. Requires constant handling of wheelchairs with patients. Ordinary hearing and speaking skills. Constant near visual acuity and depth perception for safe transportation of patients. Inside work. May be exposed to biohazardous materials. May be exposed to patients who are in an agitated or aggressive state. May be exposed to high temperature and humid conditions and to disinfecting chemicals used in the pool for prolonged periods. Mobility required for travel to scheduled events or meetings as needed. QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training and/or Experience) Must have high school level of knowledge with basic reading, writing and communication skills. CNA training preferred. If not CNA trained, will consider physical therapy or occupational therapy aide with one year experience in lieu of CNA training. Aquatic experience desired. CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer required at time of hire or within 30 days from date of hire. Incumbent must be 18 years of age or older. Background checks are conducted. When specific authorization forms are requested so that full background and history can be obtained, employees/applicants must sign the form(s) requested.
