Madison Veterinary Specialists is seeking a full time Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery department. Previous experience is preferred.

Surgery staff works Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday.

Procedure days: 7am-5pm/Appointment days: 8am-5:30pm

One of our busiest services, surgery days are never routine. Working with our two board certified surgeons, certified technicians are able to fully utilize their training in all areas, from client communications and administering anesthesia to bandaging and pain management. The surgery technician team is supported by veterinary assistants and pack-&-prep assistants that help with patient care, invoicing and sterilizing packs. This service offers flexible scheduling Monday through Friday with shifts between the hours of 7am through 6 pm and an on call weekend rotation.

The Certified Veterinary Technician provides caring, compassionate and detail-oriented nursing care for hospitalized patients and outpatients. They are responsible for correctly and efficiently executing treatments, diagnostics, and medication administration at the appropriate times under the direction of a Veterinarian. They must maintain detailed and correct medical records in the MVS electronic medical record keeping system, ImproMed, while ensuring all charges are correctly invoiced, along with updating and communicating with clients in a timely and respective manner.

  • Provide input and assist with all aspects of patient care
  • Possess or demonstrate desire to obtain a solid understanding of the common medication used within an emergency & specialty practice
  • Provide compassionate and timely care for our hospitalized patients

Required Qualifications:

  • Current State of Wisconsin licensure as a Certified/Registered/Licensed Veterinary Technician
  • Prior experience in an emergency and/or specialists’ practice is a plus
  • 1 years experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician
  • Knowledge of ImproMed software a plus
  • Physical: Must have the strength and stamina to work on feet throughout shift and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ergonomic: An employee in this position must be capable of safely working in environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, infectious and zoonotic diseases.
  • Other: An employee in this position must have a strong sense of helping clients and caring for animals and to assist with emergency or critical-care patients as needed. Maintain strict confidence regarding client and patient information. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Formal Veterinary Technology education preferred
